Sylvia Quinnell

playful 2024

Parallel to her wealth of experience as a jewellery maker Sylvia has developed a range of sculptural works in motion.

Originally inspired by a wire workshop run by Jacky Oliver - metalworker and artist - at Gallery57’s studio, and with a nod to the mobile sculptures by Alexander Calder, a small series of Kinetic Sculptures have evolved.

They move in response to air currents, vibrations and touch, continually redefining the space around them as they move. Brass and copper wire have been used to connect the pieces, which are self-supporting, while wood, glass and semiprecious stones are used as weights to balance these moveable structures.
