Having worked with galvanised grids in the making of his Reliquaries (see 'Find, make' exhibition 2021), Richard experimented with it further and discovered a way to create images using scraper board. 

​

They start by placing the grid over the board where it is used as a guide to create a network of marks. The early pieces were strictly patten based, spontaneous and meditative in their creation. As ever, they have evolved and are now letter and word based, often transcribing random trains of thought; a hidden secret language of modern day hieroglyphics.
