Kate has been working with clay for over 25 years. Graduating from Harrow, University of Westminster, her work and love of clay has taken her around the world.

 

Kate’s abstract sculptures investigate the fluidity of our perceptions and understanding of the world around us. Capturing a sense of movement within the clay has been central to Kate’s work from the beginning.

 

The production process always begins on the wheel; varying speed and pressure, Kate shapes, pushes and pulls the clay, often to its limits - the lines and marks made during these processes are integral to emphasising a sense of flux and flow.

 

Since moving to Sussex, the landscape has inspired new bodies of work - observing the ever changing nature of the South Downs, Kate has begun using locally dug clay, local wood and incorporating found objects (bark, wood, stones) to investigate notions of time and place.
