Ann Symes - Black and white exhibition

In this unfinished series I am focusing on etched edges and subtle surface marks.

I worked with aluminium plates etched with copper sulphate and salt. The subtle surface marks are created by textiles impressed into the soft ground.

By combining different sized plates and changing the arrangements it offers wide possibilities of variation on the theme.

Instead of printing using the intaglio method I surface rolled the plates using different densities of water based ink and printing them on fine papers to reveal the subtle marks.
